Vi 100 Problem 2 A 2-in diameter water jet with a velocity V1 of 100 ft/s impinges on a vane that can move in a parallel direction at a velocity uż. The vane angle changes the relative flow direction by 150°. Friction losses along the vane are such that the magnitude of the relative velocity W2 is 90% of relative velocity W1. Calculate the force exerted by the water on the vane if: (a) the vane is not moving; (b) the vane is moving away from the nozzle at 10 ft/s; (c) the vane is moving towards the nozzle at 10 ft/s. For all parts of the problem report your answer in terms of the magnitude and direction of each of the two horizontal components of the force, as well as the magnitude and direction of the resultant force exerted by the water on the vane. 2 B2 = 150°
