Problem #2 (25 points) Column AB in the braced frame is a W14x311. The height of the first floor is ( 20+ a) ft. Based on an elastic critical load analysis from a 3-D model of the building, column AB has values of Perx = (18,700 + 200a) kips for major-axis buckling and Pery = ( 19,600 + 150) kips for minor-axis buckling. The moments in column AB are negligible.
