Problem #2 Column AB in the braced frame is a W14x311. The height of the first floor is 29 ft. Based on an elastic critical load analysis from a 3-D model of the building, column AB has values of Pcrx = 20,500 kips for major-axis buckling and Pcry = 19,720 kips for minor-axis buckling. The moments in column AB are negligible. Using the Effective Length Method, determine the available strength Pn using the equations in Chapter E of the Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, Section E3. B
