Perhaps you are aware of the so-called Theory Z. The name came from the idea that this theory goes beyond X & Y. Dininni (2011) explained that it came from William Ouchie’s work to determine why Japanese organizations were out-producing American organizations in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
Ouchie attributed their success to factors such as long-term employment, workers may work for a single company for much of their lives. Also, emphasis on quality management, Japan has long been an innovator for quality systems to ensure consistency. They are known for shared decision-making as well (Dininni, 2011).
Question does this make sense? Is Theory Z a legitimate model for today’s workplace?
