A rigid circular loop of wire contains a lightweight battery and a switch. The loop is suspended from the ceiling over a desk by a light insulated string. Hanging within the loop on two other insulated strings is a plastic tray shaped like an arrow onto which objects may be placed and secured. The switch is initially open, as shown in the figure above, and the loop is initially at rest. There are initially no objects on the tray. When the switch is closed, current initially flows clockwise and the ring begins to turn. With the switch still closed, the ring eventually comes to rest.
