A well is designed that is operated mechanically, by using friction to heat the water. Two liters of water are added into the well. A liter is the volume of a cube that measures 10 cm on each side. The mass of the well is 500 grams, which does not include the mass of the water inside. It is moved at a constant speed of 6m/s across a floor with coefficient of friction 0.8. All of the energy not used during friction goes to heating the water. 1. What is the mass of the well that includes the water 2. What is the magnitude of the force of friction between the floor and the well? 3. Find the power created by the well in this situation. Using friction done in 1 second. 4. How much does the temperature of the water increase in two minutes? 5. Does the well function effectively and efficiently?
