4. (a) Explain what are meant by a material's mobility µ, conductivity and resistivity p. [3] The metal rubidium (Rb) has a body-centred cubic (BCC) crystal structure whose unit cell has edges of length 0.559 nm. (b) Assuming that rubidium atoms packed into the BCC structure as if they were hard spheres, estimate the radius of a rubidium ion. (c) Explain why each rubidium atom contributes a single conduction electron. [2] (d) Assuming that the behaviour of conduction electrons is described by the free electron model, calculate the mobility µ given that the resistivity p = 128 nm. [4]
