A curtain pole is offered with a choice of solid finials (the ends of the curtain rail): cylindrical or spherical, shown below. The radii of the cylinder and the sphere are both 6 cm and the length of the cylinder is 12 cm. The radius of the pole is 1 cm. How much more material is there in a cylindrical finial than a spherical one? The sphere is attached to the curtain pole at the point where the sphere has a radius equal to the curtain pole. R
