11. We learned about decarboxylation in class. It is also important in the drug trade. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. However, it is not present in marijuana until heated (whether smoked or cooked). The reason is that THC must be prepared from tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA). In fact, THCA is not psychoactive.
