Question 2 (10 points) A fuel mixture of 60 percent by mass methane (CH4) and 40 percent by mass ethanol (C₂H6O) is burned completely (stoichiometric combustion) with theoretical air (21% O₂ and 79% N₂). If the total flow rate of the fuel is 10 kg/s, determine the required flow rate of air. Hint: Balance the reaction equation, then find the ratio of total air mass to total fuel mass-known as the air-fuel ratio - to help determine the required air flow rate. Question 3 (6 points) Ethane (C₂H6) is burned at atmospheric pressure with the stoichiometric amount of air as the oxidizer. Determine the heat rejected, in kJ/kmol fuel, when the products and reactants are at 25°C, and the water appears in the products as water vapor. Hint: As there is not temperature change between the reactants and products, the sensible enthalpy terms cancel and you only need to consider enthalpy of formation.
