b. Estimate the volumetric strain in each sublayer and the
settlement at the surface that will result from post-liquefaction
reconsolidation of the site.
c. Assume for a moment that the layer at 4.0 m depth from
Homework 6 will liquefy during the design earthquake. Estimate the
liquefied shear strength [Su(liq)] of the layer using the Olson and
Stark (2002), Robertson (2010), Seed and Harder (1990), Idriss and
Boulanger (2007), and Kramer (2013) relationships. What value of Su
(liq) would you pick for use in a stability analysis?
d. Assume for a moment that this borehole is from a site with a
ground slope of 1%. Estimate the lateral spread displacement during
the design earthquake. Do this using both the Youd et al. (2002)
and Zhang et al. (2004) procedures discussed in class. You may
assume that the site-source distance is 15 km.
