Problem 2. Referring to Appendix " A 3" of your text and beam figure 7th from the top and 2ed from the bottom, a Fixed-Fixwd ended beam with Concentrated load "P" at midspan.
i) P=Pu=97.33 kips and L-18 ft. Using Fy=50 ksi steel , design a W18 section and specify its unbraced length Lp.
Hint: you may use the the appropriate table from your text Appendix.
ii) Draw a figure of the beam and specify the placement of the horizonlal braces using an "X" on the compression flanges.
Problem 3. (33 points) - For the beam of oroblem 2. and the selected W18 section,
i) Using the section properties "Z"to calculate Phi Mp, and compare to the Mu, max ,from the beam
ii) Use the appropriate equation in the text to calculate the unbraced length Lp of the selected W-section
iii) Use the appropriate section properties to calculate the deflection under the Load Pn.
