Question 6: Soil classification You have collected soil samples as part of the investigation for a levee project. The particle size distribution data for four soil samples are shown in the figure below as curves H, I, J, and L. Soil H has a strong organic smell but contain no fibrous material. The other soils are nonorganic. The Atterberg limits results are listed below as well. (1) Determine the AASHTO group classification and group index for soil H. Would the soil make a good highway subgrade according to the AASHTO classification system? (2) Determine the USCS group symbol and group name for soil L using the data given above.
