(a) Figure 3(a) shows a non-sway 250 mm square column AB in a braced reinforced concrete frame. The column is subject to axial loads and bending moments as shown in Figure 3(b). Determine if the column is short or slender as per Eurocode design recommendations. (b) A short concrete column has been designed to have a cross sectional profile as shown in Figure 4(a). An interaction diagram for the column bending about z-z axis has also been produced for analysis purposes, as shown in Figure 4(b). Following the Eurocode design recommendations, check that the interaction diagram is correct for the case where the combination of axial force and moment results in a neutral axis depth of 300 mm. The characteristic compressive strength of concrete is 25 MPa. For steel, its characteristic yield strength and Young's modulus are 500 MPa and 200 GPa, respectively.
