An overhanging beam having a span of 8 m has its overhang 2 m
from both ends. The beam carries a downwards uniformly distributed
load of w KN/m over the entire span of the beam and a
concentrated load of 5 KN at 1 m from the left support. What is the
safe value of w if the modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa and the
moment of inertia is 45,000,000 mm4. The allowable
maximum deflection is limited to 1/360 of the span.
