1. When COVID put everyone in quarantine, people had to figure out new ways to exercise. Some people turned to Virtual Reality headsets to play high-intensity fitness games like Beat Saber, and they couldn't shut up about their results (for reals, y'all, super fun and I lost 25 pounds). To explore the science behind these claims, Dr. Fit ran a simple study asking out-of shape adults to play Beat Saber for 30 minutes a day, three times a week for a month, without changing anything else (their diet stayed the same). She measured their weights before and after. Did this exercise routine have a significant effect on weight? SSD = 414. Subject Baseline (X₁) After 1 month of Beat Saber (X₂) (extra column if you need it for something). 1 165 171 2 250 246 3 215 198 190 193 5 200 192 a. State your hypotheses in notation (two-tailed) and set criteria for rejection of the null (a=.05). b. Calculate the test statistics (I gave you the SSD above, so you don't need to calculate it; show ALL other work with appropriate notation - if long decimals are involved, maintain 3 decimals in your formulas). State whether or not you can reject the null. You do not need to calculate effect sizes. c. Write an interpretation in APA format as discussed in class to summarize what you've found. Round to 3 decimals when reporting stats.
