A mining company employed a total of 7546 people. Of these 2310
were employed in areas where they were exposed to high levels of
toxic gases from machine exhausts, while the remaining 5236 were
not exposed to toxic gases. At the beginning of the study, all
employees were free from disease. The entire population of 7546 was
reassessed after 10 years to determine whether exposure to toxic
gases increased the risk of developing asthma. The findings the
10-year assessment are provided in the table below.
Calculate the appropriate measure of association and interpret
your answer and what proportion/fraction of asthma in the
exposed workers could be due to their toxic gas exposure? Please
provide the answer as a percentage and interpret your answer.
