2. Analyze and solve real-world problems utilizing systems
of equations. (CO 1, CO 2, CO 4)
a. A roofing company buys 28 bundles
of shingles and 5 rolls of roofing paper for $978.95. In a second
purchase the company buys 10 bundles of shingles and 2 rolls of
roofing paper for $353. Find the price per bundle of shingles
(x) and the price per roll of roofing
paper (y). Write a system of equations
and use any method to solve.
b. You are running a concession stand
at a football game. You are selling sodas for $0.75 each and hot
dogs for $1.50 each. At the end of the night you made a total of
$119.25. You sold a total of 97 sodas and hot dogs combined. How
many hot dogs were sold (x) and how many sodas were sold
y? Write a system of equations
and use any method to solve.
c. At a taco stand you order two soft
tacos and three burritos and your total bill is $10.75. Your
friend’s bill is $9.25 for three soft tacos and two burritos. How
much do soft tacos cost x? How much do burritos
cost y? Write a system of equations
and use any method to solve.
d. A local coffee shop is creating a
new “Breakfast Blend” of coffee for their menu. They are going to
blend $8 per pound Columbian coffee with $5.50 per pound Costa
Rican coffee to make their new blend. If Susan ends up buying 5
pounds of coffee worth $31.25, how many pounds of Columbian coffee
(x) and how many pounds of Costa Rican
coffee (y) were in her purchase?
Write a system of equations and use any method to
solve.
