You are an administrator of a hospital in a community of 150,000 inhabitants and noticed that many patients admitted for salmonella infection indicated that they drink unpasteurized milk from the local market. You decided to conduct a hospital-based study to see if there is an association between Salmonella infection and unpasteurized milk. The following information was abstracted from the hospital medical records. ➤ During the last three years, 10% of the community population was hospitalized for at least one day. A review of admission records indicates that 55,000 patients were admitted patients, 64 for salmonella infection. ➤ 3,487 patients of the 55,000 admitted patients reported that they had consumed unpasteurized milk. 13 of the patients who reported that they had consumed unpasteurized milk were admitted for salmonella infections. Based on the above information, answer the following questions: 1. What design should you use and why? Instructions: I need you to write the study design that are applies to the above information and explain the reasons. Please follow the instructions. Example of the study design: Descriptive studies: uses of descriptive data, case report/case series, time trend, cross-sectional studies (disease prevalence surveys, determinant prevalence surveys, combined), ecologic studies, spot maps. Analytical studies: experimental (experiments, clinical trials), quasi-experimental studies, observational studies (cohort, case-case-control, special cases of cross-sectional studies, special case of ecological studies.
