In a basin with an average annual rainfall of 1,650 mm and an
average annual evaporation of 550 mm, it is planned to build a
reservoir that must solve the following (Figure 1):
• Supply a population of 220,000 inhabitants who consume 300
liters/(inhabitant*day)
• Supply water to an industrial estate that occupies 350 hectares
and consumes 1Liter/second*hectare
• The river from which it is required to use the water has minimum
environmental needs that require not using 22% of the annual
contribution between October and March and 13% the rest of the
year.
The following must be calculated:
A. Minimum area of the catchment basin to the reservoir
B. Annual contribution that must be left for environmental
reasons.
