A question In rock mechanics
(c) A simplified three-dimensional wedge system has been identified and comprises two families of joints which repeat regularly with depth. The open pit excavation is designed to the depth of (H) such that the pit face will be vertical (dip = 90°). An orthogonal view of the pit face and joint intersection condition is as presented below. The joint system (A) dips at an angle ß = 60° such that (<90%). The joint strike is parallel to the pit face and dips into the pit. The joint (B) repeats regularly along the pit face and at a distance interval equal (W) being 54 meters. No cohesion is generated. Determine the various block dimensions:: (i) the geometric length (L) given that depth of mining (H) = 150 m the area of the sliding plan contact (ii) (iii) The dimension (T) from the side view of the block system Volume of the sliding block (V). (iv) Side View of Block System Sliding block 90¹ - B 11 Present depth of mining
