An employee contracts an illness that leaves her hearing-impaired.
She does not want
attention called to the disability and does not request any
reasonable accommodation.
Answering phones is an essential part of the job. The employee’s
performance has been
slipping, and there are errors in phone orders.
2. Age Discrimination (5 points)
A salesperson has been with a company for 30 years. In his early
years, he was a top
producer; however, his production has dropped greatly in the past
several years. Younger
salespeople producing at his level have been terminated.
3. Pregnancy Discrimination and Nursing Mothers (5
points)
A female employee has worked for a company for two years as a
customer service
representative. Early in her third year of employment, she informs
her employer that she is
pregnant. She also states that she wants to work until her due
date. The employee rarely missed
work for medical reasons before becoming pregnant. However, as the
pregnancy progresses, she
increasingly misses work time for medical appointments and
pregnancy-related sickness.
