reduction and internal fixation of right ankle fracture
POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Painful hardware from previous open
reduction and internal fixation of right ankle fracture PROCEDURES:
Removal of hardware from right ankle including lateral screws and
medial screws, lateral plate and syndesmosis screw from the right
ankle. PROCEDURE: The patient was brought to the operating room.
The patient was administered anesthesia. The tourniquet was
inflated to 300 mmHg. After the right lower extremity was
exsanguinated, the right lower extremity was prepped and draped in
normal sterile fashion. Using the previous incision sites on the
lateral side, an incision was made approximately 4 cm in length.
Using C-arm fluoroscopy also to identify the screws, the screws
were removed from the lateral plate in their entirety including the
syndesmosis screw. The plate was then removed also. The wounds were
then copiously irrigated. Next, using the incision on the medial
side, the two 4.0 cannula screws were also removed using C-arm
fluoroscopy. All screws were removed in their entireties. The wound
was then copiously irrigated and closed using 0-Vicryl suture for
the deep tissue, 2-0 Vicryl suture for the subcutaneous tissue and
a running 3-0 nylon suture for the skin. The wounds were sterilely
dressed. The patient was emerged from anesthesia, brought to the
