A patient is admitted to the hospital. The patient's albumin is
2.1 g/dL. (normal range is 3.4 to 5.4 g/dL). The patient is taking
an anti-diabetic drug Glipizide which is highly protein bound. In
the hospital the patient is started on an anticonvulsant phenytoin.
Glipizide is 98% protein bound and phenytion is 90% protein
bound.
Based on the above information, what would the nurse anticipate?
Which drug probably has a greater affinity towards binding with
plasma proteins?
