Figure 1. shows an interference fringe pattern projected onto an
engineering component. This "structured light" system adds
information to the image to enable accurate surface measurements to
be made and a four-frame phase stepping algorithm is used to
calculate height data. The system uses four fringe images with a
phase step of π/2 radians, giving four intensity values per pixel.
The recorded intensity values of the shifted fringe pattern for a
sample of a single row of pixels are given in Figure 2. As the
object's height is directly proportional to the final phase value,
use the intensity values given to calculate an unwrapped phase
distribution for the object surface.
