Trimix is a breathing gas mixture used for deep diving consisting of an oxygen, nitrogen, and helium blend. Helium is included in the breathing gas as a partial substitute for nitrogen when descending to depths around and below 100ft because it is an inert gas, meaning it does not react with our bodies at conventional scuba depths, unlike nitrogen which leads to narcosis symptoms that become increasingly serious as the diver descends, leading to possible unconsciousness and death at and below 300ft.
