Question 2 (a) (b) (c) State the potential strategies for reducing barreling in upsetting. (5 marks) Describe at least two methods to produce steel balls. (4 marks) A 300-mm-wide strip 22-mm thick is fed through a rolling mill with two powered rolls each of radius = 200 mm. The work thickness is to be reduced to 20 mm in one pass at a roll speed of 50 rev/min. The work material has a flow curve defined by K = 300 MPa and n= 0.2, and the coefficient of friction between the rolls and the work is assumed to be 0.11. Determine if the friction is sufficient to permit the rolling operation to be accomplished. If so, calculate the roll force. Tip: the average flow stress can be calculated by the following equation Yavg = Kɛ"/(1+n), where ε is the true strain. (11 marks)
