Case Study
17.1: Diana, a 56-year-old waitress, has been taking care of her
86-year-old mother with Alzheimer’s disease for the past three
years. Diana calls her mother’s physician’s office and complains to
a nurse that she “can’t take it anymore.” Her mother keeps her up
all night wandering and getting into drawers and cabinets in the
kitchen. She turns on the television so loud that the neighbors can
hear it.
- How should the nurse respond to the daughter?
