Problem 1: In order to provide irrigation, water has to be pumped from a settling basis at elev. 60 m to an elevation 120 m. through a 600 mm pipe where the pressure required at the higher elevation is 272 KPa. The source of the water and the discharge point are at atmospheric pressure. Irrigation requirements dictate that the water must be pumped at the rate of 1 m/sec. The loss of head due to friction and others factors is estimated to be 2.45 m. EL 120 P=172 KP 600 mm P Elev. 60 m a. Determine the velocity of the water inside the pipe for the required discharge. b. Determine the amount of energy, in meters, that the pump must furnish. c. The rating of the pump in horsepower if it is only 80% efficient. Problem 2: What volume of flow will pass a 15 cm. new cast iron pipe with a headloss of 1.8 m per 300 m. f =0,025
