Piped Services SISS3221 04 (a) An office building of 11 floors (G/F, 1/F to 10/F and R/F) has female and male toilets in each floor from 1/F to 10/F and there is no toilet at G/F. The following appliances are installed in each female and male toilet. One branch pipe for each toilet is used to connect the soil and waste appliances from each toilet to a common vertical discharge stack: Female Toilet Quantity Water closet (9 litre, traditional, high level flush) 2 nos. Wash basin (6 litre x 32mm waste) 2 nos. Male Toilet Quantity Water closet (9 litre, traditional, high level flush) 2 nos. Wash basin (6 litre x 32mm waste) 3 nos. Urinal 3 nos. Assuming medium frequency of usage and by using Chart 04(a), Tables Q4(a).1, 04(a).2, Q4(a).3 and 04(a).4, determine: (1) the size of branch pipe for the male toilet (assuming pipe gradient of 22mm/m); (3 marks) (ii) the size of branch pipe for the female toilet (assuming pipe gradient of 22mm/m); (3 marks) (iii) the total discharge flow from the building: (2 marks) (iv) the size of the common vertical discharge stack; and (1 mark) (v) the size of the ventilating stack. (1 mark) (b) The flat roof of the office building in Q3(a) above has an area of 50 m x 40 m. The roof is immediately adjacent to another taller building with its external vertical wall of area 600 m above the office building. There is no other parapet wall around the roof. (1) Determine the size of rainwater pipes according to Hong Kong Building Regulation if four (4) vertical down pipes are used. (5 marks) (ii) Using rational approach, determine the size of the four (4) vertical stacks and comment on the statutory requirement and the rational approach. (6 marks) Given: Q- CIA/3600 Rainfall intensity to a return period of 20 years : 1= 200 mm/hr Impermeability factor=0.85; q=kd® for k = 3.2 x 10-9 for a quarter full flow.
(iii) Using the following equations and Chezy formula, determine the size and gradient of the horizontal main pipe connecting the four vertical stacks through manhole for the whole office building. (4 marks) Given: Q=VA, v = c/mi Chezy coefficient (C)=56 Mean flow velocity (v) = 1.5 m/s Hydraulic mean depth (m) = ( 1 D2/4)/ TD 1 Depth of flow 2 ,
