Figure 2 shows the cross-section of a reinforced concrete column
which for architectural reasons has the shape of an equilateral
triangle and which is reinforced as shown.

= 32 MPa and fsy
= 500 MPa
(a) Calculate the depth of the plastic centroid
dpc for the section
(b) This column section is subjected to combine
axial compression and bending about a horizontal axis, with the
5N24 bars being on the tension side. Calculate the
Mu ,
Nu values corresponding to a
neutral axis depth of 250 mm. Assume that the
Equivalent Rectangular Stress Block (ERSB)
parameters used for rectangular sections also apply to this
section.
