For both of the topics below (A&B), go through the 3 steps ethical analysis procedure discussed in this week's presentation to help develop a campaign based in ethical decision-making. The presentation has 2 images to help with this assignment. A. A city would like to collaborate with the public health department to create a campaign for smoke-free outdoor spaces B. A local hospital system wants to collaborate with the public health department to create a campaign for reducing childhood obesity Step 1: Gather the facts - state at least 2 potential conflicting views/correct options Step 2: Evaluate each of the 4 ethical principles as related to step 1 - define autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice Step 3: Justify decision - determine what the campaign will look like (in a few sentences); select one of the following terms and describe why it is the best justification: effectiveness, necessity, least infringement, reasonable trade-offs, proportionality
Label the 3 steps for A and for B like below: A Step 1 one view opposing view Step 2 • autonomy • beneficence . non-maleficence justice Step 3: campaign description • term and description of justification [Repeat for B] B Step 1 • one view opposing view Step 2 • autonomy • beneficence non-maleficence justice Step 3: campaign description • term and description of justification
