If accepted for this study abroad program, you will be asked to
sign off on a Statement of Responsibility and Waiver, Release and
Hold Harmless Agreement which includes the expectation that “As a
participant in a Program, I represent the University of Maryland. I
will act as a goodwill ambassador and conduct myself
appropriately”. More specifically, as a study abroad student from
the University of Maryland, your actions on a study abroad program
may significantly affect the well-being of fellow students and the
University's relationship with the host university, and therefore,
you will be expected to display a high degree of personal maturity,
responsibility, and cultural sensitivity while studying overseas.
It is important to recognize that countries and communities around
the world are trusting you to act responsibly in the interest of
public health as they welcome you from abroad as the world
continues to navigate COVID-19. What do these expectations mean to
you? How will you demonstrate your commitment to this
responsibility while abroad? How will you be a good steward of the
trust that communities around the world will afford you as a study
abroad student?
