7. The IR spectrum below represents one of the three organic compounds: propan-1-ol (CH:CH-CH2OH), propanal (CH:CH-CHO) or propanoic acid (CH3CH2COOH). 0.8 Transmittance 0.4 - 3000 2000 1000 Wavenumber / cm a. Analyze the spectrum and identify two bonds other than C-H that are present and one that is absent in this compound. Refer to table 26 of the Data Booklet to complete the table. [3] Bonds present: Wavenumber / cm Bond 2850-3000 C-H Bond absent: Wavenumber / cm- Bond b. The mass spectrum of the same compound contains strong peaks of (M—15) and (M—17)* ions. The first signal corresponds to the loss of a methyl group, CHs, from the molecule. Deduce which fragment is lost to produce the second peak. c. Using the information above, deduce the identity of the organic compound. d. Predict the number of peaks in the 'HNMR spectrum of this compound. e. Determine the ratio of hydrogen atoms under the peaks in each of the three molecules-propan-1-ol (CH3CH2CH2OH), propanal (CH3CH2CHO) or propanoic acid (CH3CH2COOH).
