The patient has a severe allergic reaction to the Cefepime and
now the physician wants to change the medication to Aztreonam 1.25
gm IV q12hrs. Aztreonam 2 gm vials are reconstituted with 10 ml per
gram of SWFI and has a displacement volume of 0.4 ml per 500 mg.
What is the total volume of medication needed for a single dose?
Answer is 6.25ml
Before IV administration, Aztreonam must be further diluted to a
2% concentration. Assume you will use an empty bag, inject the
medication and 0.9% sodium chloride (NS) into this empty bag before
dispensing the medication. How many milliliters of sodium chloride
do you need to add to the empty bag? (This question is dependent
upon a correct answer from the previous question.) Answer in whole
numbers.
