(i) Given that for [Co"(NH3)6]2+ A/B – 14.6, with reference to the Tanabe- Sugano diagram for d’octahedral complexes above reported, state whether the complex is expected to be high- or low-spin, identify the ground state and assign the absorption bands to the corresponding electronic transitions (hint: consider spin-allowed transitions only). [20 marks] With the aid of the Tanabe-Sugano diagram above reported, calculate the Racah parameter B, the crystal-field splitting energy 40 (in cm!) and the Crystal-Field Stabilization Energy (CFSE) for the ground state configuration of the complex [25 marks] (ii)
