-4- 5) (a) Three compounds, each of which has two atoms bonded together in its molecules, react to produce four different substances. If three of the "new" substances are elements, how many atoms are in the molecules of the fourth "new" substance? (b) A very, very precise meter stick is made of a certain metal and one of this metal's characteristic properties is called the linear expansion factor. This factor tells us how much the length of the meter stick changes with temperature. Is this property a bulk property, or a property of the particles of the material? Explain. (c) Substance R has a larger density than substance T. If we have a sample of R which has a smaller volume than a sample of T, can we determine how the masses of the two samples compare?
