ST710 Project #2 25% of course grade (Due Sunday: /2022) X For the project you may work in groups of up to two students, if you wish. Late projects will be penalized. The written responses to the questions must be typed. You must submit two files in Moodle. . A Word/pdf of the typed written answers to the questions for each problem. The answer to each question must consist of a few sentences/paragraphs as necessary) describing the statistical analyses or test conducted and the results obtained. You must refer to clearly labeled (using page number or other identifying information) portions of the output, as necessary. You may include limited output and graphs (as necessary) in this document. A single electronic copy of the R code/output, including graphs (or RMarkdown output file - Word, pdf, or html). All code/output MUST be in a single (Word, pdf, or HTML) file. The file must be well formatted to be readable and so that I can easily find parts you may reference in your write-up. . 1. (36%) The following questions relate to the data set Cars 93 in the MASS package. When applying an inferential procedure, you MUST state the assumptions of the procedure and check their validity, when possible. The final answer to each question must consist of a paragraph describing the question and presenting the results of the statistical analyses. The paragraphs should refer to relevant output and graphs. Limited output and graphs can be included in the text. Additional code, output, and graphs must be in the code and output file. a) Use appropriate graphical and numerical measures to compare the wheelbase of cars as it differs between cars of USA and non-USA Origin. Write a description of the similarities/differences in Wheelbase between cars of USA and non-USA origin backing your claims by citing appropriate statistics and graphs. (No inference required.) b) Suppose we wish to predict the Price of a car based on either Horsepower or MPG.city. Develop and check regression models for predicting Price. Describe each final model obtained by interpreting various quantities computed. If you had to choose one of Horsepower or MPG to predict price, which would you choose? Explain. You must use log (Price) rather than Price. Using each of your two final models, predict the Price of a car with a Horsepower of 150 and MPG.city of 20 (i.e you need to get two predictions). c) Estimate the difference in the mean (or median) number of passengers (Passengers) between non-USA and USA cars (Origin) using a 95% confidence interval. Use both parametric and nonparametric approaches. Interpret the intervals obtained and compare the results. d) Are the six "types" of cars equally common? Conduct an appropriate test. If they are not equally common, describe which types of cars are most/least common.
