(b) A pontoon of length 18 m and width 8 m is being used to deliver equipment to an offshore construction site. The pontoon is symmetrically loaded such that its weight is 1,540 x 103 N and its centre of gravity is located along its central vertical axis at a height of 3.6 m above the base. The saline water in which the pontoon floats has a density of 1,035 kg/m3. Will the pontoon float stably? (8 marks] (c) A rectangular weir and a triangular weir are located in the same channel with their crests at the same level. Both weir plates have openings 0.4 m wide at the top and 0.4 m deep, heads of 0.3 m over their crests and Cp of 0.65. Calculate the proportion of the total combined discharge that passes over the triangular weir. [5 marks] (d) Water flows down a half-full circular pipe of diameter 0.8 m. The pipe is laid at a gradient of 1 in 300. Taking the Chezy coefficient as 45 m 12/s, calculate the discharge through the pipe. [4 marks)
