Design a four-story steel frame building that is 250' x 250'. The building will be located in Johnstown. The building will be mixed occupancy. The developer wants the ground floor (1st floor) to be designed so a tenant can lease the space for a restaurant. The 2nd and 3rd floors are going to be leased as office space while the 4th floor is going to be leased as apartments. . Layout the columns and beams There are no restrictions on beam depth or bay spacing Draw the framing plan for floors 2, 3, and 4 in CAD (the 1st floor will be a slab on grade) Draw elevations views for the building in CAD Show proposed bracing or moment frames on the elevation view Determine the loads acting on the building (seismic and wind should be included) Choose flooring, wall, ceiling, façade, and roofing materials that are appropriate for the occupancy Use engineering judgment to account to HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical, and duct work The roof can be designed using joists or wide flange sections Design the columns and base plates Identify splice locations on your CAD drawings Include a base plate detail in your CAD drawings Design the lateral bracing system Design the connections for the girder to column and the beam to girder connections Bolts, welds, or a combination of both is permitted Include connection details in your CAD drawings Design the connections for the lateral bracing system Bolts, welds, or a combination of both is permitted Include connection details in your CAD drawings Design the beams Use appropriate deflection limits
