For the gravity wall shown in the figure, determine:
a) The maximum active pressure force (Pa) considering that the soil
is dry. Note: use Rankine theory.
b) The maximum active pressure force (Pa) considering that the soil
is dry. Note: use Coulomb theory.
c) The maximum active pressure force (Pa) considering that the NF
is 10 ft from the surface. Note: use Coulomb theory.
d) Determine the dimensions of the wall (gravity) so that it meets
the minimum criteria for factors of safety against failure modes of
sliding, overturning and bearing capacity of the soil. Note: Draw
gravity wall with the dimensions and characteristics finally
determined.
