Consider the intersection of University and California shown in Figure below. The major street (University) is 80-feet wide; the minor street (California) is 50-feet wide. Lane markings are shown as in the figure. Extension detectors are located 120-feet upstream of the stopline on University; there are no upstream extension detectors on California. There are stopline detectors on the THRU lanes on University, and on all lanes of California. The left turn bays on University contain 80-feet presence loop detectors. Pedestrian traffic is light to moderate. 120 ft Extension detector University 45 mph 80 ft Median 80 ft → 45 mph 44 Presence detector 120 ft Extension detector L N California 50 ft 130 mph! Figure. Intersection of University and California A signal phasing sequence has been proposed in which the westbound (WB) traffic on University moves first, followed by the through (Thru) traffic (both EB and WB) on University, and then followed by all movements on California. Table 2 documents vehicle arrivals on each approach for the intersection of University and California for a 60-second time period. Assume that, prior to time = 0, there are no vehicles on any approaches. Using the Phase Interval Times Diagram in Table 1, indicate in the last column of Table 2 the phase intervals that are timing at any given time; i.e., draw and label the movements (using arrows) that are being shown green at the particular time. Be sure to include any clearance intervals that are appropriate. Time (Sec) 0 1 2 3 4 Table 2.
