A small town (marked by the letter "X" in Figure 1) is located in-between a freshwater lake on the east and an impervious igneous rock outcrop on the west. A pumping well (PW) is constructed to supply the town with 500 m³/day of drinking water. An observation well (OW) is installed to monitor the groundwater profile as shown in the Figure. The two wells fully penetrate a 25 m-thick confined aquifer. The aquifer has a hydraulic conductivity of 20 m/day and storativity of 0.003. Based on the above information, you are asked to do the following. (a) Schematically show the positions of the superimposed wells including all distances and type of image wells (show two loops of images). Provide a brief reasoning (maximum 2-3 lines) for the system of the imaginary wells. [Image wells are to be drawn by you] (b) Calculate the drawdown at OW after 30 days of pumping (use a single loop). [S,=0.604 m] (c) Provide a qualitative sketch of the drawdown at OW (use a single loop image wells) over time starting at t=0. Comment on the resulting drawdown in terms of the effect of the hydrological [Drawdown is to be drawn by you] boundaries. Lake X PW 201 OW 100 m 100 m Solid igneous rock outcrop 150 m
