case study:
Amber is a 33 year old women, 39 weeks gestation complaining of
severe back pain and cramps. Amber is currently incarcerated
at a state penitentiary. Her water broke this morning. She was
asking repetitively to be brought into the hospital to give birth.
Correctional officers denied her. She waited 8 hours until they
brought her in this evening. There is one male correctional officer
present in the room. Amber is currently shackled to the bed.
Upon assessment is noted that she is in active labor
Questions:
How does ethics play into consideration and how does it apply to
the patient? (expertly use the terminology of the topic). What
are the challenges/risks/concerns and how can the professional
provide a response or next steps for the situation?
