Question 2 A foundation is proposed, which will be placed on to a 4 m thick stratum of homogeneous saturated clay. A sample of the clay was then tested for water content and the following results obtained: Mass of sample tin + wet soil = 256.13 g Mass of sample tin + dry soil = 217.60 g Mass of sample tin = 39.65 g a) Plot the void ratio against pressure curve and, from it, determine the coefficient of compressibility of the clay for a pressure increment of 300 to 450 kPa.
