Wireless Site Impairment Analysis and Network Redesign The Rationale: In the last five years, there has been an exponential increase in the use of WiFi network both by the staff and the student in the University. On an average every user connects three devices to the University network. The slower 802.11B protocol is now replaced with ultra- fast 802.11AX protocols. Every user expects at least 1.5Mbps at the application layer. This puts a lot of stress on to the campus network During 2019, CS&IT redesigned all their BG-Level 1 computer labs. During this period, several new labs were created in the BG building. ICT had provided sufficient access points In the floor area to provide access to WiFi users. However, they are not quite sure about impairments due to the new design. The purpose of this project is twofold: 1. To analyse the existing WiFi network in the BG, Ps2 building. Identify any potential issues. Document them. 2. Design from the scratch a new WiFi network that if future-proof and cater to the university needs. Capabilities and Requirements When ICT develops its wireless designs, the following points are top of mind. These should be specifically considered and discussed as part of the project: 1) Your design should cater, average 25 active devices in a wireless Cell (allow 50% HD Video call, so web browsing) 2) Realtime audio/video (MS Team, Zoom, Cisco Weber, Facetime) support over wireless 3) Channel planning to be done to minimize one AP to interfere with another. 4) Sustain streaming video content without buffering 5) Voice support to allow phone calls over wireless 6) Roaming between locations without dropping the wireless connection 7) Protocols, Data Rates selection to be justified with technical reasons This list is not exhaustive and any location specific design considerations you uncover should also be discussed Approach Plan (Est. 1 week) Each group will need to create the following documents: • Detail project plan (What is required, effort/duration expected, cost and by whol Scope Document in scope Out of scope including any assumptions) Communicationsplan • Risk and Issues Register Stakeholder analysis

This should be verified using Witold Wireless site survey using map and tools to understand current age and coverage Design (Est 3 weeks) Bil of Materials (M) Induding costing • Documented cabling changes • Budget for the work to be completed Detail configuration changes that would be needed to implement the solution • Justification of your design including hardware selected and listing all the considerations you included in your design List of any assumptions if any Complete a 30 minute professional presentation on your design to the project board including Computer Sciences Lecturers and Tutors and ICT Network Management team Implementation (Est 3 weeks - mid semester break) . As Bult documentation New network diagram, Updated cabing Update configuration Post Implementation review and presentation (Est 3 weeks) • Review measure the area once the implementation has occurred to verify the changes has the expected outcomes. • Document the things that could be done better next time Create a poster summariring the project including Team Project Plan Budget.
