The shaft shown is driven by a pinion and drives a gear at C.The shaft is supported by bearings at B and D. Gear G1 has 55 andpinion (P1) has 26 teeth. Pinion 1 transmits a tangential load of555lb. The diametral pitch is 5 (both with 25 degree pressureangle).
Find:1. Bending and surface stresses on the two gears2. Apply Failure and fatigue analyses on the G1 only
Assumption:• Consider 1 shift of 8hrs in 5 years for the gear life @2458rpm• Both gears are grade 2 steel with HB = 360.• 𝐸 and 𝜈 for both gears is 30E+06 psi and 0.28,respectively.• Uniform vibration in driving machine, moderate vibration indriven machine.• Quality factor 5.• Solid gears.• Conventional manufacturing methods.• Room temperature.• 99.9% reliability.
