Two concepts introduced in the chapter on logic are converse andcontrapositive. Though similar in name, they are not the same.Explain the important differences between the converse andcontrapositive of a statement as you would to a 6th grader. Use thestatement "People who own cats play the violin." as an illustrativeexample in this explanation. Then, comment on 2 others' posts toextend the conversation. Be sure to review the discussion rubricbefore posting.

Discussion grading rubric Each discussion forum assignment will have two parts: an initial post and a critique or other response to posts by others within your discussion group. Both components are evaluated when assigning discussion grades on a 4 point scale. We expect initial posts to be thoughtful, complete answers to the given question, generally at least 150 words in length. Students sometimes restate the question or fill their answer with definitions of terms but neither of these are considered substantive when evaluating initial posts. Students who cite the text ("on page 64, paragraph 3 the text says") or a relevant web page indicate that they have thought about the question and sought guidance from the text, and this is considered substantive. Timeliness in particularly important in discussion posts, since others need you to make your post on time so that they can respond. Responses should include a supported assessment of the initial post. "I like your use of coffee as an analogy and agree with your post" is not substantive, it does not give logical support for why the initial post was good. Responses that ask questions, focusing on possible ambiguity or flawed logic, are substantive, and have the added benefit of prompting the original poster to extend the conversation. To meet expectations, both components of the forum post assignment must be timely and substantive. Such assignments receive a grade of 3. If a forum post fails to meet expectations (such as for being late) but is still partially substantive it will receive a grade of 2. A form post that lacks any discernible effort on the part of the poster, and which seems intended only to meet some minimum word count or timeliness criteria will receive a grade of 0. It is possible to exceed expectations. Forum posts that attempt to consider facets of a question that are not immediately obvious by exploring resources outside the assigned reading would exceed expectations. Responses that include links to references answering (sometimes implicit) questions of the original poster, or which successfully engage one or more group members in an extended conversation would exceed expectations. If both aspects of a post at least
