Lab Description: In this lab, we will be working with GNS3 to design a network for a small company. You have been hired to architect the network. Background: Widget Inc. is a new startup company. Their plan is to bring to the marketplace a new mobile application that allows instant design and creation of Widgets. Once a user has designed their Widget, the associated widget can be easily ordered directly from the mobile application. The first stage of their new startup company is to have a network designed, so that they can begin moving in equipment. The company has determined that they will initially have four offices, located in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin. Austin will be there primary office, which will include a small datacenter. The other three offices will be field offices. Initially, the field offices will have about 10 employees each, and are not expected to grow more than 100 employees per office. The main office however, will initially start with 80 employees and may grow to several hundred, depending upon the Applications Success. Initial departments that will be created as part of this company: Sales, Marketing, Finance, Software Development, IT Support, Manufacturing and Shipping. Exercise 1 - Information Collection The first step in coming up with adequate network topology is collect information on the client's needs. Spend some time and write down several questions that you would ask a client. Some of this information has already been given in the initial Background information of Widget. Based on the information above, try to answer of few of these questions: How many network locations (geographically) are needed? 2) For the different offices, any indication of how many IP addresses might be needed? Explain your answer. »How many different networks might be needed? Break some of them down....example....guest wifi For the local offices? For the Home Office in Austin? 4) Continue below and write down some additional questions and considerations in designing our network. Exercise 2- Build Widget's initial network After initial consideration and review, you have decided to start with a simple network topology that meets the following requirements below. Using GNS3, design the network below. There are some additional comments to part of this design, please focus on those. - Each remote office will only require an IP range of 200 IP addresses . Each remote office will only need a single network Configure each network allowing for the appropriate range of IP Addresses . Initially connect at least two VPCS to each remote office. . Annotate the networks, PC names, city, and any details. • The Home office will also only require an initial IP Range of 200 addresses. The home office will need 3 initial networks, not including the network that connects the entire corporate network Corporate Network-connects 3 remote offices -3 internal networks .User PC's - Web Servers - Finance PC's Connect two PC's to each internal network. The protocol is decided by the you, the network Architect. Write a small paragraph on which protocol you will use and why? ex....Is RIP better than OSPF? Is EIGRP better than OSPF? A couple things to keep in mind. If you use EIGRP, that's cisco proprietary.....Widget might have to invest in cisco only equipment, which could cost more. Exercise 3 - Validate Widget's Network Now that you have Widget Inc's network working. Validate that the network is working correctly. . Try ping the webservers for all locations. Remember you have to use the -p 80 on the ping command. - Make sure that everyone can ping each other. ie... Chicago to New York, New York to Los Angelos, etc.
