Using Figure 13-7 as an example, draw a dynamic stability graphfor MT (microtubule formation) as the following experiment is done(you are plotting length change vs minutes – just focus on overalllength change of a MT – don’t worry about plus vs minus end).Assume the effect of the drugs or proteins only lasts forthe 5-minute time interval and there is always a low level ofGTP-tubulin to allow polymerization to continue whenneeded. In addition to your graph, explain with a fewwords, what is happening (WHY the graph is going up, down, orstaying flat).
• From time 0 to 5 minutes there is abundant GTP-tubulin
• At 5 -10 minutes, katanin is added
• At 10 - 15 minutes, MAPS are added
• At 15 - 20 minutes, stathmin/Op18 is added
• At 20 minutes, catastrophins are added
• At 25 minutes the experiment is stopped
• What could you add next to stop the depolymerization andpromote rescue?
